About the Cool Foods Campaign

Climate Change is such an enormous and unprecedented problem that it may seem like our individual efforts can’t possibly make a difference.

But, they do, especially on the food front. Think about it: if we are fortunate, most of us eat three times a day. That’s over 1,000 meals a year! Say you live with three other people – that’s over 4,000 meals in one household.  Each of those meals has the potential to contribute to climate change, or to help solve it.

Currently the global food system accounts for an estimated 30 to 50%* of total greenhouse gas emissions. *(This figure takes into account land-use changes, agricultural production, waste, processing, transport, packaging and retail).

Food doesn’t need to be part of the climate problem. In fact, the exciting news is that food can actually play a starring role in climate solutions.

To be part of the climate solution, all you need to do is follow our Cool Foods principles:

  1. Eat fresh, unprocessed foods.
  2. Buy local and in-season.
  3. Choose organic foods.
  4. Eliminate industrial meat & dairy consumption, and opt instead for pasture-raised products.
  5. Reduce food waste and compost at home, at school, and at work.

By making climate-smart food choices and by supporting our policy initiatives, you’ll help tackle climate change while creating a healthier you, a healthier family, and a healthier planet.

Everyone eats, so everyone can join the Cool Foods Campaign!
