Description of Presentations:
Genetic Engineering: Presents a thorough overview of all of the issues surrounding genetic engineering, including an explanation of the process of genetic engineering (GE), US regulation of GE, human and environmental concerns, GE and animals, public opinion of GE, false claims from the biotech industry regarding benefits of GE, international issues, patenting, and solutions. (62 slides, approx. 1 ½ hour presentation)
Genetic Engineering and World Hunger: Discusses real reasons for world hunger and the failure of genetic engineering to address the problem. Also addresses issues surrounding rejection of GE food aid. (24 slides, approx. 30-45 minute presentation)
Benefits of Organic: Outlines benefits of organic and sustainable agriculture and discusses current threats to the integrity of the national organic standards (28 slides, approx. 30-45 minute presentation)
U.S. Regulation of Genetically Engineered Foods: Discusses public opinion of genetic engineering, human and environmental concerns, and the problems with the current U.S. regulatory structure in regards to genetic engineering (25 slides, approx. 30-45 minute presentation)
Biopharm Crops - Physicians for Social Responsibility(PSR)/Oregon Chapter: This presentation was developed for use in Oregon PSR's campaign on biopharm crops. Excellent and informative overview of human health and environmental implications of crop use and regulatory problems, and basic factual info about the extent of test plot plantings, what drugs and chemicals being produced, what crops that have been genetically engineered for biopharm, etc. (35 slides, approx. 45 minute to hour presentation)
Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone - Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR)/Oregon Chapter: This presentation was developed for use in Oregon PSR's campaign on rBGH. Excellent overview of the issue including information on human and animal health implications, history of regulatory issues, facts and figures on use in the U.S. and internationally, etc. This presentation is somewhat Oregon-specific, but can be very useful to anyone wishing to educate themselves or others about the issue.
